We die to the self nature (Selfish) not God natured with is selfless. If we don’t die to the flesh we will not be able to walk in the spirit

Hebrew 12.1-2 The Race of Faith
1Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
This scripture is simply saying that your faith in action is Jesus in action in our life, because the source and owner of faith is Christ. Faith is the fruit of the Spirit. To experience this fruit we have to abide in Christ Jesus (the true vine).
John 21.25 “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”
