Can anyone be right with God on their own merits?  The following scriptures answer that question clearly.
 
John 6:29 (New International Version)
 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
 
John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
 
Romans 3:22-24 NLT “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.”
 
Romans 3:25-26 NLT “For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”
 
Romans 3:29-31 “After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn’t he also the God of the Gentiles? Of course he is. There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Paul highlights we are children of Abba Father:
Galatians 4.1What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces a of the world. 4But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,  5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Abba Father is Spirit:
John 4. 21“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans worship  what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers mustworship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Paul’s Use of His Freedom

The Need for Self-Discipline
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

The Bible defines Grace Unmerited Favor:Grace is not something earned or deserved. It's a gift freely given by God, even when humans are undeserving. 
 
John Newton penned the words of Amazing Grace - Here are the words of the first two verses.
Amazing grace! How sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me!I once was lost, but now am found;Was blind, but now I see.
 
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,And grace my fears relieved;How precious did that grace appearThe hour I first believed.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. “  You will find this in John  chapter 14  verse 6.
 
Grace works first when we take to heart and apply in our lives this scripture and
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’   You will find this in John chapter 3 verse 16.
 
 
How should we treat this Grace:  Believe in our Heart, Confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour
 
The Apostle Paul treated this Grace as central to his life.
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
Acts Chapter 20 verse 24
 
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!  Romans Chapter 5 verse 15
 
so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans Chapter 5 verse 21
 
I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Galatians 2 verse 21
 
You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. Galatians 5 verse 4
 
We should therefore Trust in God’s Immeasurable Love for us through our Faith in Jesus Christ through whom the unmerited Grace comes.  How can we do that? By Faith in Jesus Christ and Loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and Loving our Neighbour as ourselves.   Remember God first Loved us.
